A new project “Eco Youth for Pankisi Valley”

During December 17-22, 2016, NGO “EcoVision” implemented a project “Eco Youth for Pankisi Valley.” The project was organized within the framework of school initiatives program of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia. The project included 4 meetings in Akhmeta Municipality and Tbilisi for school children and teachers from 7 villages of Pankisi Valley. Up to 40 school students and 15 teachers took part in the meetings.

On December 17-18, at educational centre of Akhmeta Municipality were arranged trainings for teachers about creating and functioning of eco-clubs. There was also held a presentation of international school project “SPARE.” The meeting participant teachers were interested in non-formal education and environmental issues. They expressed their readiness to establish eco-clubs at schools and to engage students to join. The school children were trained on the following topics: "Introduction to Ecology", "Biodiversity", "Energy and Climate Change."

The final stage of the project included meetings in Tbilisi, at “EcoVision” educational centre, on 21-22 December. School students and teachers were trained on the following topics: “How to establish an eco-club,” “1-year action plan of an eco-club” and “Waste Management.” The participants also took part in Trash-art master-classes and created new things from waste.

At the end of the meetings, there were arranged an eco-quiz for school students. The eco-club of village Jokolo public school won the quiz and its 5 members were rewarded with invitations to Summer Eco-camp “EcoVision 2017.”
